Michael pfau
co-founder/president of the Board
Michael is a devout Catholic, CEO, philanthropist, loving husband, father of five children, and grandfather to 15 grandchildren. After pioneering a successful homebuilding company with his wife for over three decades and raising their children together, Michael decided to enjoy semi-retirement by creating two non-profit organizations: Living Waters for Christ Inc., which is dedicated to supporting families in growing in faith together, and Mary’s Home Maryland Inc., which has been a life-long dream and commitment. He feels blessed to be a part of a very dedicated and passionate pro-life community.
Mary Therese Pfau
co-founder
Mary Therese – Michael’s loving wife and business, philanthropy, and parenting partner of 40 years – has been a pro-life advocate from the beginning. For 10 years, she and Michael worked with the Columbia Pregnancy Center and welcomed expectant mothers into their family home. With a degree in Biology and a perpetual desire to learn, she is always discovering new projects and hobbies, when she is not busy spending time with her grandchildren. Mary Therese is a generous, driven, and fiercely strong mother and woman, who believes that – with patience, determination, and a good sense of humor – you can accomplish great things.
Sonia (Tompkins) Mejia
Executive Director
Sonia graduated from Tulane University in 2013 with a degree in Linguistics. Passionate about empowering women, she was very involved with Students for Life in college and is currently working on a certification to teach FEMM, a fertility awareness method that allows women to monitor their own health by understanding the physical signs of each stage of their reproductive cycles. After college, she dedicated herself to sharing her faith. From 2014 to 2016, she worked as a FOCUS missionary, introducing college students to Christ and launching them into lifelong Catholic mission. She mentored women and led Bible studies, retreats, and large group events. The Lord then led her to Honduras for a year, where she lived in a multicultural, Catholic lay community and served in various ministries, helping young Hondurans to encounter Christ and live a life of discipleship. Her favorite was at a local girls’ orphanage. She has since been teaching and previously taught Latin and Spanish at a local, prominent, all-girls high school before becoming part of the Mary’s Home family.
Karen Kemilembe
Client Services | Case manager
Prior to joining the Mary’s Home community, Karen served as a community and healthcare support worker, an overnight postpartum doula, and most recently, a perinatal care manager for Mamatoto Village in DC. Karen is also a Licensed Practical Nurse, who has worked in maternal and behavioral health care, including working as a patient care technician in a high-risk pregnancy unity/maternity ward. She chose to become a maternity case manager, because she believes every mother deserves compassionate support, quality care, and access to the resources needed for a healthy pregnancy and postpartum experience. Pregnancy is a deeply personal and often vulnerable time, and she has always felt called to walk alongside women and families during this critical life transition. Whether it's helping a first-time mother navigate prenatal care, connecting someone to safe housing, or simply being a reassuring presence during a stressful time, Karen finds purpose in being a steady source of guidance and support. She is especially passionate about advocating for underserved and high-risk populations, ensuring that all mothers - regardless of background have the chance to thrive. As a teenage mother myself, she endured a lot of prenatal and postpartum stressors and overcame such struggles in positivity. Karen is privileged to be able to support other moms on a similar journey at Mary’s Home.
